Crime is top of the agenda

on Wed 14 July at 7:30pm

It would be criminal to ignore the popularity of crime fiction both in the UK and abroad – especially given the huge sales such books attracts.

Which is why Manchester discussion group, the Manchester Salon, is devoting its next meeting to the crime novel genre in general, and the Millennium Trilogy of Stieg Larrson in particular.

Writer Stephen Bowler will open the discussion with analysis of the crime novel as a form of literature and dissect its continuing appeal - whether it’s a classic detective story or lesbian crime fiction.

Academic Angelica Michelis will then take up the baton with the works of Scandanavian Stieg Larrson, which have topped the bestseller lists.

Larsson’s untimely early death in 2004 and the drama surrounding his will and estate have only enhanced the interest in his three novels and their two unlikely ‘detective’ figures: Mikael Blomkvist, a left-wing Swedish journalist and Lisbeth Salander, a computer hacker with Asperger syndrome.

Anyone who loved reading the Millennium Trilogy, or was annoyed by it, and anybody who is interested in crime fiction in general should come along and join in the lively debate on crime fiction and its relation to social reality and fantasies.

Date: Wednesday 14 July, 6.30pm for 6:45pm (£5 charge to cover costs)

Venue: Blackwell University Bookshop, The Precinct, Oxford Road, Manchester.
